This presentation will discuss "measuring the consequences of state-level programs providing access to contraception is crucial to current U.S. policy debates. The Colorado Family Planning Initiative (CFPI), begun in 2009, dramatically increased access to – and use of – the full range of highly effective contraceptive methods in all federally funded Title X family planning clinics in Colorado. Prior work establishing the program’s impacts has been limited by its ecological design, limited investigation of heterogeneity of effects across demographic subgroups, and focus on short-term impacts. Through a unique partnership with the US Census Bureau, we follow individuals longitudinally, extend prior work to study the impacts of CFPI on fertility among those 25 and older at program exposure, and disaggregate effects by number of children ever born and by demographic subgroup, including poverty status and race/ethnicity. In this talk, I will present our use of lifetable methods to model the lifetime fertility effect of CFPI on cohorts who were entering their reproductive years at program start."
