This presentation covers two main topics: the rise in mental health diagnoses among youth in emergency departments, which may be more influenced by changes in diagnostic criteria than actual increases in mental health issues, and the lasting impact of 1930s redlining practices on neighborhood development. It suggests that Latino immigration in redlined areas, like San Antonio, has helped reduce violence and disinvestment, challenging the idea that these areas are doomed to negative outcomes and showing how shifts in policies and demographics can change trajectories.
