This presentation explores the long-term consequences of early police contact on health outcomes in adulthood. While much research has focused on incarceration and adulthood, this study highlights the significant yet often overlooked effects of initial interactions with the criminal legal system, such as stops or arrests at a young age. Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY97), the research examines how these early encounters shape physical and mental health over time. Additionally, it investigates whether the impact of arrest remains stable throughout life or evolves—either intensifying or diminishing with age.
