My current writing and research focuses on forms of indefinite detention, including war prisons, concentration camps, and immigration detention centers. In previous research, I published on various topics pertaining to social capital, gender inequality, and sociology pedagogy.

I am currently director of the professional degree program in Public Safety Leadership and Administration (PLA), which is jointly offered by the University of Maryland's Department of Sociology, Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and the Francis King Carey School of Law.
