Four sociology students presented their research at the annual McNair Conference at UMD.
Jonathan Flores, (mentored by Dr. Kris Marsh) presented his project titled, "Representation of Gentrification".
Javon Goard, (mentored by Dr. Rashawn Ray) was awarded the Best Presentation Award for his project titled, "Gaming the Gamers: Gender and Racial Portrayals in Trailers of Popular Video Games".
Rhys Hall (mentored by Dr. Rashawn Ray) presented his project titled "Framing of the Education of Young Black Males: Critical Analysis of Newspaper Publications". Rhys also received the Best Supportive Peer Mentor Award.
Kalani Johnson (mentored by Dr. Kris Marsh) presented a project titled, "Being Mary Jane: The Impact of Respectibility Politics on SALA Black Women's Dating Practices".
