On April 11, David and Mady Segal were the guest speakers at the 2015 induction of the West Point chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the international Sociology honor society. While at West Point, the Segals participated in sociology classes dealing with feminist theory (taught by Maryland alumna Sharon Edens), military families (taught by Maryland alumnus Morten Ender), and armed forces & society. They also participated in an unanticipated (by them) award ceremony, at which they were presented with the American flag that flew over West Point the day before they arrived "in honor of their 40 years each of exemplary service and dedication to the United States Military Academy, the United States Army, and the United States of America." Of about 50 sociologists, both military and civilian, who have taught at West Point since the 1960s, 12 have done their graduate study at Maryland. UMCP is followed by Chicago, Stanford, and Northwestern, with 4 alumni each.
