Dariya Brown is a junior Sociology and Government and Politics double major, from Prince Georges County, who won the Melvin C. High Scholarship in 2013 before matriculating to UMD. She also won the Melvin C. High Scholarship in 2013, and was selected by Bishop McNamara and the Prince George's County Kiwanis Club for "Citizenship Awards" for her outstanding service to the community. She was selected for this award because Dariya collected school supplies to help students in need at District Heights Elementary School. Dariya is one of our department’s most talented students, who has also worked as a student orientation advisor at UMD. She earned semester academic honors every semester that she has attended UMD. Dariya’s interest in social stratification and inequality has led her to take courses that examine race, gender, educational inequality and health- while earning her College Park Scholars citation in International Studies.
