Ann Horwitz

Doctoral Candidate

Broadly speaking, my research interests lie in political sociology and social movements. Specifically, I focus on the American conservative movement, from its mainstream to its fringes. My second-year paper, "A Movement in Its Own Right: Understanding the Conservative Position on Environmental Issues," analyzed website content from nine top conservative think tanks to assess the conservative movement's stance on scientific consensus and environmentalism. Starting in July 2016, I will be based in Orlando, where I will carry out my dissertation research on mobilization strategies and activists' motivations in the Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns in Florida.
