My primary areas of specialization include Race and Ethnicity, Qualitative Research Methods, and Sociology of Religion. My research agenda focuses on the conneciton between race and religion, specifically among African Americans. My dissertation is titled "New Wine Calls for New Wine Skins: Black Megachurch Approaches to Racial Inequality." In this dissertation I explore the way pastors and congregants understand contemporary racial inequality and the roles black megachurches take in addressing contemporary racial inequality.
I also enjoy teaching undergraduate Sociology courses and in 2013 I was a recipient of the Behavioral and Social Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award.
