Mary DeStefano is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Maryland. She studies gender, urban sociology, environment, and inequality. 

Prior to pursuing her doctoral degree, Mary was an Urban Planner, and for her dissertation she is looking at social change and the urban planning profession.

She is also a classically trained artist who enjoys drawing and painting and is trying to integrate design and visual culture into her Sociology studies as well.
