Mary DeStefano is a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Maryland and a fellow in the Program for Society and the Environment at UMD. Broadly, her areas of interest include environmental sociology, urban development and cities, gentrification, and inequality.
Prior to pursuing her PhD, Mary worked at the Police Foundation, a non-profit based in Washington, DC, and was a Community Planning Fellow for the City of New York. She is also a classically trained artist who enjoys drawing and painting and is trying to integrate design and visual culture into her Sociology studies.
