Yi-ching Huang is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Maryland. She obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology from National Taiwan University. Her research interests include parenting, immigrant, Asian / Asian American, inequality, and poverty. Specifically, she focuses on examining how the Asian and Latino immigrant parents use ethnical capital as educational and cultural resources for their children. She uses qualitative method addressing the parenting strategies and neighborhood choosing process in DMV area. In addition, she is utilizing the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing study to analyze the parenting style and system involvement.
Her master's thesis is grounded in a two-year ethnographic study investigating how organizations can foster relationship-building among the homeless, and how organizational social ties influence the living conditions of the homeless. This study received the Master's Thesis Award from the Taiwanese Sociology Association and the Taiwan Association of Third Sector Research.
