Socialized at the public library of his sod-selling bible-thumping Oklahoman town, Abel Huskinson is pursuing his Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Maryland where he conducts research for the IPUMS Time Use Project. Prior to starting at the University of Maryland, Abel was the 2024 Legislation and Policy Fellow at the Utah State Board of Education and a research lead for the Media Effects on Development from Infancy to Adulthood Study, where he oversaw data collection on digital natives.
Abel’s research interests fall into three often overlapping categories. (1) Using time-use methods to understand the transformation of labor and time in the digital era. (2) Life course studies of adolescence, family, and well-being. (3) How experts, staff-members, and logistical laborers navigate partisan politics and appease lawmakers to effect change.
