ARI-Emerging Research Unit Fellow

Paid, Fall & Spring (20 hours), Summer (40 hours)

About:  This Consortium Research Fellow will work in ARI's Emerging Research Unit and will assist with projects to conduct two systematic literature reviews on individual and unit resilience. This effort will be conducted using evidenced-supported literature review practices approved by ARI. Additional research activities will focus on assisting in a meta-analysis of resilience concepts and building measures of unit resilience. Students will participate in all phases of the research process (e.g., literature reviews, data collection and analysis, and reporting). The Fellow will complete literature searches and reviews, participate in data collection such as survey administration or note-taking, enter qualitative and quantitative data, perform data analysis (e.g., descriptive and inferential statistics and factor analysis), and document research for ARI technical report publications.

ARI-Foundational Science Research Unit Fellow (Complex Systems)       

Paid, Fall & Spring (20 hours), Summer (40 hours)

About:  This Consortium Research Fellow will work in ARI's Foundational Science Research Unit and will assist with projects related to the study of complex systems (focusing on individual and group behavior in organizations). Potential tasks may include helping to develop and validate new measures and metrics to assess individual and group characteristics; helping to develop and validate empirical and computational models of individual and group attitudes and behavior (especially in areas related to social selection, social influence, and social and cognitive networks); and applying advanced analytical techniques to such topic areas for purposes of empirical research. Additional tasks may include assisting with unit-level activities, including preparing program review publications. The Fellow will assist with theoretical development, literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, and reporting (to include writing conference submissions, technical reports, and peer-reviewed publications).

ARI-Personnel Assessment Research Fellow (Measures and Assessments)

About:  This Consortium Research Fellow will work in ARI's Personnel Assessment Research Unit and will contribute work on developing, validating, and implementing selection and assignment measures and assessments. The selection and assignment measures and assessments may include cognitive, non-cognitive, and attitudinal predictor and criterion assessments in the areas of personality/temperament, interests, cyber aptitude, and gender integration.

Dissertation Fellowship Program

The Center for Retirement Research at Boston College sponsors the annual Dissertation Fellowship Program in the field of retirement income research.  The program is funded by the U.S. Social Security Administration and provides funding opportunities for doctoral candidates to pursue cutting-edge research on retirement issues. Priority areas include:

White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Internship Program

Unpaid, Spring, Summer, and Fall, full-time & part-time

About:  The White House Internship Program’s mission is to make the “People’s House” accessible to future leaders from around the nation.  We are reaching out to see if your fellows or graduate students would be interested. 

Terms:  November 30 for Spring session (Jan-May)*, March 8 for Summer session (May/June-Aug), July 19 for Fall session (Aug-Dec) Full-time internships year round (spring, summer, and fall). Part-time applicants who can commit to at least 20 hours a week will be considered.

Responsibilities:  Interns at the Initiative are responsible for assisting the staff on a wide range of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) issues and priorities, including capacity-building, civil rights, data disaggregation, economic development, education, health, immigration, language access, and workforce diversity. In addition, interns will help write policy memos and proposals, draft blogs, assist with communications and social media, coordinate and staff events, and conduct outreach to national and local AAPI organizations and leaders. WHIAAPI Seattle and San Francisco interns will focus primarily on expanding AAPI regional engagement efforts through effective outreach and event planning.

Eligibility:  Enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited academic institution. Authorized to work in the United States

About CDP: The CDP mission is to prepare health care professionals to better meet the deployment-related emotional and psychological needs of military personnel and their families. Consortium Research Fellows Program: U.S. Army Research Institute for Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI)

About the Program: The Consortium Research Fellows Program (CRFP) is a partnership between the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area and several Department of Defense agencies. The CRFP fosters a strong relationship between the higher education community and DoD. Consortium Research Fellows (graduate students) and Consortium Research Assistants (undergraduates) are assigned to research or technical teams at the sponsoring agencies and work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and full-time in the summer.                

Length and Location: Commitment is one year, hours are up to 20 hours per week during the school year and fulltime in the summer for a maximum of 1300 hours annually.         

Stipend: Range of earnings is between $20,400 and $40,500 per year for 1300 hours of service.   

Eligibility: Students who are pursuing recognized degrees at accredited institutions of higher learning in the United States, who are U.S. citizens, and who are willing to commit to the Consortium Research Fellows Program (CRFP) for a minimum of one year.

Embassy of Canada Internship Program

About the Program: The Embassy of Canada’s Internship Program provides students with an opportunity to be involved in governmental affairs and to develop an understanding of the Canada–U.S. bilateral relationship. Interns may be asked to: perform research, attend hearings and seminars, draft reports, assist with event management, or other relevant tasks. The program is intended to be a valuable educational experience which provides skills and knowledge for personal growth.

RAND Graduate Student Summer Associate Program

About the Program:  RAND's Summer Associate Program introduces outstanding graduate students to RAND, an institution that conducts research on a wide range of national security problems and domestic and international social policy issues. The program receives about 600 applications each year for the 30+ positions. The selection process is based on matching Summer Associates and their specific skill sets with researchers and their project needs. Given the ever changing research climate, we often do not know which projects may require Summer Associates until the beginning of the year.

Length and Location: 12-week fulltime internship at one of the RAND offices: Washington DC, Santa Monica, Pittsburgh, and Boston.

The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center)

About the Program:  The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) seeks a graduate student to join us an Intern, Economic, Human Services and Workforce Programs

NGA is the bipartisan organization of the nation’s governors. Through NGA, governors share best practices, speak with a collective voice on national policy and develop innovative solutions that improve state government and support the principles of federalism. The NGA Center develops innovative solutions to today's most pressing public policy challenges and directly serves governors and their key policy staff.

The Economic, Human Services and Workforce Programs Division helps Governors and senior state officials identify, share, and implement best practices and sound policies. The Division conducts work that focuses on improving the economic development of states and regions, building a strong workforce, and supporting low-income and at-risk children and families. The work covers topics such as apprenticeship, two generation programs for low-income families, child welfare, workforce development, and advanced manufacturing.

Quantitative Analyst Intern, Summer 2016           

About the Program:  Google's statisticians and quantitative analysts work within our Software Engineering organization. We analyze huge sets of data and continually run live experiments in order to help drive critical decisions at Google. Specifically, we support the development of innovative, highly scalable, next-generation technologies through deep research and precise analysis.   Responsibilities include providing research on topics including Google's business model and novel search techniques; producing quantitative and qualitative modeling of business dynamics, user behavior, etc.; identifying areas for further investigation as well as creating innovative methods of analysis.

United Chinese Communities - Washington, DC

About the Program:  Here's a great opportunity for those interested in undergraduate and graduate internships in Washington, DC at a new and fast-growing non-profit Asian American organization: United Chinese Communities, through its Washington, DC-based National Asian American Center, is seeking interns in the areas of social research, communications and outreach, development, research, mobile app/website development to assist in facilitating UCC activities. Most of these undergraduate and graduate internships are unpaid positions and require at least 10 hours during each semester or quarter. There is also the possibility of a summer stipend of $1,000 and Fall semester stipend of $500 and a Spring Semester stipend of $500 for qualifying applicants with advanced training (especially technical, fundraising, and computer programming) and/or graduate education who intern full time during the summer and at least 15 hours during the academic year.
