The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce that Katharine Khanna will be joining the department as an Assistant Professor in fall 2025. Khanna has been with the department since 2023 as a President's Postdoctoral Fellow. "She has been exceptionally productive in her research and has developed strong professional relationships with department colleagues," writes Chair Liana Sayer. "She is and will be even more of an asset and valued member of the department with her transition."

I am incredibly happy to be starting my time as an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland. I am grateful for such supportive colleagues and for a wonderful community of scholars in both the Department of Sociology and across campus.

"Katharine's research in gender and identity, along with her novel approaches to experimental methodology, dovetail well with existing strengths in the department while also adding new areas of expertise," adds immediate past-Chair Jeff Lucas.
