The Department of Sociology will welcome Katharine Khanna this fall as a President's Postdoctoral Fellow. "We are excited that Katharine Khanna will be joining the department under the mentorship of Associate Professor Long Doan," writes Chair Jeff Lucas. "Katharine's research in gender and identity, along with her novel approaches to experimental methodology, dovetail well with existing strengths in the department while also adding new areas of expertise."

Khanna completed her Ph.D. in Sociology at Columbia University in 2023. Her research examines how and why gender inequality persists in the United States. Current projects investigate the relational and intersectional nature of gender attitudes and the social and symbolic consequences of espousing egalitarian beliefs. She is eager to join the UMD community and looks forward to engaging and collaborating with her new colleagues in the department.

Welcome, Katharine!
